On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks did something very brave on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Back then, unfair laws said Black passengers had to give up their seats to white passengers and move to the back of the bus. When Rosa Parks was told to give up her seat, she said "No." She knew it wasn't fair, and she was tired of being treated differently just because of the color of her skin. Rosa Parks was arrested for staying in her seat, but her brave action started a movement! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was then a young minister in Montgomery, helped organize a boycott of the buses. This meant that Black citizens stopped riding the buses altogether - they walked, shared rides, or found other ways to get around. The boycott lasted 381 days (that's more than a whole year!), and finally, the unfair bus laws were changed. Rosa Parks and Dr. King showed everyone that peaceful actions could lead to big changes. They worked together to help make our country fairer for everyone. This project will show you how to make puppets of these two brave leaders so you can tell their inspiring story!
