DIY Bookmark Flower Design

A 10–20 minutes craft for ages 5–10, using supplies you likely already have — Sharpie Markers, Staplers, and Pom Poms.

    Make DIY Bookmark Flower Design

    Your creative buddy says:

    Step 1: Paint the popsicle stick green

    May need grown-up help
    Place a large popsicle stick on the paper plate. Squeeze a little green paint onto the plate. If you don't have a paint brush, you can make one! Just pinch a pompom with the clothespin to make a paintbrush. Paint the popsicle stick green. You might need to paint it more than once. Set it aside to dry.

    Step 2: Fold and cut the construction paper for the flower petals

    Choose a color of construction paper for your flower. Fold the paper in half lengthwise and cut along the fold. Take one half of the paper and fold it like an accordion, going back and forth. Then, shape the ends with a curve or a slant to look like petals.

    Step 3: Staple the folded paper in the middle.

    Fold the accordion-folded paper in half. Staple the center of the paper, right on the fold.

    Step 4: Glue the accordion folds to make a flower shape.

    Spread out one side of the accordion so the sections connect. Use the glue stick to stick them together. Squeeze and hold it for a minute until the glue holds. Do the same thing on the other side of the accordion fold to make a full flower shape. If the glue doesn't want to stick, you can also use staples.

    Step 5: Cut out a heart and glue it to the flower center

    Choose another color of construction paper for the middle of your flower. Fold a small piece of this paper in half, then cut out a heart shape. Use the glue stick to attach the heart in the middle of the flower. Press down on it, maybe even put a small book on top, until the glue dries.

    Step 6: Add a leaf and a message to the stem.

    Cut a green leaf from a scrap of paper. Use markers to add details to the leaf. Use the glue stick to attach the leaf to the green popsicle stick stem. If you want, write a special message for Mom or someone else special on the stem using the black permanent marker.

    Step 7: Attach the flower head to the stem.

    Put a good amount of white craft glue on the top of the popsicle stick stem. Carefully place the flower head on top of the glue. Let the glue dry completely. This might take a while.

    Clean up

    Put things away so your space is tidy for next time.
