Earth Day Activities Paper Chain

This paper chain is a great way to do Earth Day activities all year long! You can write a different Earth Day activity on each paper strip. Then, you take one link off the chain each day or week and do the activity. This helps you make our world a little bit better, like planting a flower or learning about nature. You can also make a chain where you write things you love about the Earth or ways you want to help it. This helps you think about all the good things the Earth gives us!

Make Earth Day Activities Paper Chain

Messy Mode

Cut the Chain Links

Choose the colors of paper that you will use for your paper chain. You can pick colors like blue and green, or any colors you like! Hold the paper long-ways (landscape) and cut the paper into strips, about 1 1/2 inches wide. Make as many strips as you want, depending on how long you want your paper chain to be. If you are a little one, ask an adult to draw lines for you to follow when you cut. It's okay if your strips are not perfectly straight!

Write Your Earth Day Activities

Think of fun things you want to do to celebrate the Earth. You can get ideas from the 'Printable Ideas for Earth Day' list. Write one activity on each paper strip you cut out. If you are just learning to write, an adult can write the words with a highlighter, and you can trace over them. This helps you practice writing and learn new letters!

Build Your Paper Chain

Now it's time to put your paper strips together! Take one strip of paper and make it into a circle. Make sure the words you wrote are on the inside of the circle. Then, use a stapler or glue stick to hold the ends of the circle together. Next, take another strip of paper and put it through the first paper circle. Make this new strip into a circle too, and secure its ends with a stapler or glue. Keep adding more paper circles, linking them together, until your chain is as long as you want it to be!

Start Your Earth Day Activities

Now your Earth Day paper chain is ready! Each day, or once a week, or whenever you decide, take one link off the chain. Do the fun activity that is written on that link with your family. Enjoy making the Earth a better place!

Recycle Your Paper Chain Links

Since this project is all about helping the Earth, don't throw away your used paper chain links! You can put them in a scrap bin to use for other crafts, cut them into tiny pieces for a collage, or weave them into a new piece of art. You can even turn them into special paper with seeds inside that you can plant later!
