Easter Basket Kids Craft

Make a sweet Easter basket using popsicle sticks! This basket has a special woven design and is perfect for holding pretend Easter eggs or other small treasures. You can fill it with all sorts of fun things!

About This Project

Step 1: Make a triangle with popsicle sticks.

Take three large popsicle sticks and glue them together to make a triangle shape. Let the glue dry completely. You might want to do this the night before so it's super dry and strong! We have lots of projects that use this same popsicle stick triangle shape. You might want to make a bunch of them! Search for Popsicle Stick Crafts in GlueStick to see them all.

Step 2: Paint your triangle brown.

May need grown-up help

First, put down some newspaper to keep your table clean. Squeeze a little brown paint onto the newspaper. Pinch the medium pompom with the clothespin to make a special paintbrush, or just use a regular paint brush. Paint your triangle brown, then let the paint dry.

Step 3: Add a brown paper base to your basket.

Place your painted triangle frame on top of the brown construction paper. Use your pencil to trace around the outside of the triangle. Then, draw another triangle just a little bit smaller inside the first one you drew. Cut out the smaller, inside triangle. Use your glue stick to glue this brown paper triangle onto the back of your popsicle stick frame. (Note, our picture is from another project that uses a green triangle, but the process is the same!)

Step 4: Weave paper strips

Cut eight strips of brown construction paper. Make them about 1/4 inch wide and 5-6 inches long. Glue four of these strips onto the front of your triangle frame, making sure they are spaced out. Trim any extra paper hanging over the edges. Now, weave the other four strips through the ones you just glued down. Glue them in place too, and trim any extra paper. If weaving is too tricky, you can just glue all eight strips onto the frame without weaving.

Step 5: Add a handle

Cut a thin strip of brown paper for a handle and glue it to the top of your basket.

Step 6: Cut and decorate colorful eggs

Cut out some egg shapes from your colorful construction paper. You can use the attached printable as a pattern, or draw your own. Make as many eggs as you want to fill your basket! Use your markers to draw fun designs and colors on your eggs. Use your glue stick to glue your decorated eggs inside your basket.
