About This Project

A 10–15 minutes craft for ages 3–6, using supplies you likely already have — Hole Punches, Pom Poms, and Scissors.

    Make Easy Apple Art

    Your creative buddy says:
    "I can't wait to make a project with you!"

    Step 1: Paint the paper plate red.

    May need grown-up help
    Pinch the medium pompom with your clothespin to make a 'paint brush'. Lay newspaper on your work surface to keep it clean. Squeeze out some red paint and paint the bottom of your paper plate. You do not need to paint all the way to the edges. Let the paint dry. If you want to skip the mess of paint, use markers or crayons to color your paper plate instead.

    Step 2: Twirl the pipe cleaner around a pencil to make the worm's body.

    Take your green pipe cleaner and twirl it around a pencil. When you reach the end of the pipe cleaner, make a tight spiral. This will be where you attach the worm's head.

    Step 3: Add googly eyes to the small green pompom and attach it to the pipe cleaner.

    Put the two small googly eyes onto your small green pompom. Ask an adult to help you put a generous drop of liquid glue on the flat end of the pipe cleaner. Place the pompom onto the glue and let it dry completely.

    Step 4: Cut out the apple shape, stem, and leaf using the template.

    May need grown-up help
    Print out the apple template. Ask an adult to help you use the template to cut the apple shape out of your painted paper plate after the paint is dry. Then, cut the stem and leaf shapes out of your brown and green construction paper scraps.

    Step 5: Draw details on the leaf and stem.

    Use your markers to add fun details to the leaf and stem you just cut out.

    Step 6: Punch a hole in the apple for the worm.

    Now it's time to make a hole for your worm! Pick a spot on your apple, making sure it's not too close to the edge, and punch the hole. Slide your worm in!

    Clean up

    Put things away so your space is tidy for next time.
