I Have A Dream Rainbow Mobile - Martin Luther King Jr. Craft for Kids

Cut your cloud shapes

Just like Dr. King shared his dreams for a better world, you can share your hopes for the future in this colorful hanging art project. Cut out five cloud shapes from cardstock paper. No cloud is perfect, so older kids should be able to freehand this step. For younger children, consider drawing or printing cloud shapes for them to cut out.

Write your dreams for the world

When you imagine a better world, what does that mean to you? How can we be kinder to others? What would make our school better? How can we help our community? What would make the world more peaceful or better for the people and animals that share it? Write your hopes and dreams for a future world on each of the cloud shapes in marker. Then, color the shapes with sidewalk chalk or chalk pastels for a rainbow dreamy look. Write words, draw pictures, or both! Whatever will make your mobile your own and inspire you to work towards these future goals.

Tie on your dreams

Poke a hole in each of your dreams with a scissors or hole punch. Tie a simple knot to each end to attach the dream to the stick.

Tie on the hanger

Cut one piece of yarn about 12-18" longer than your stick. Tie a larkshead knot on each side of the stick to attach the yarn so you can hang your creation. Hang your mobile somewhere you'll see it every day. Let it inspire you to work hard to achieve your dreams, just like Reverend King did.
