    Make Life-Sized Sunflower Craft

    Your creative buddy says:

    Step 1: Paint the sunflower center.

    May need grown-up help
    First, cut the curved edge off the paper plate, so you have a flat circle. Put the circle on newspaper to keep your table clean. Pinch a medium pompom with a clothespin to make a paintbrush. Squeeze a little brown paint onto the newspaper. Dab the brown paint all over the circle until it is completely brown. Let the paint dry completely.

    Step 2: Cut out petals and leaves.

    Use the sunflower template to trace 14 to 15 petals onto yellow construction paper. Carefully cut out all the petals. Next, trace 4 to 6 leaves onto green construction paper. Carefully cut out all the leaves. Fold the ends of each leaf by about 1 inch.

    Step 3: Make the sunflower stem.

    Cut strips of green paper about 1 1/2 inches wide. You will need about 30 strips. To help you cut straight, you can fold the paper first. Make a paper chain using the green strips. Use a stapler to close each link. If using a stapler is hard, ask an adult for help or use a glue stick to make each link instead.

    Step 4: Add leaves to the stem.

    Staple the leaves onto the sides of the paper chain stem. Put them on alternating links. If you don't want to use a stapler, you can use a glue stick to attach the leaves.

    Step 5: Attach petals to the sunflower head.

    Once the brown paint on your paper plate is dry, use a glue stick to attach the yellow petals to the back of the painted circle. This will make the pretty head of your sunflower.

    Step 6: Put the sunflower together.

    Bend the pipe cleaner into a loop. Use scotch tape to attach the pipe cleaner loop to the back of the sunflower head. You can hang the sunflower up by the pipe cleaner hanger! Finally, use scotch tape to attach the green paper chain stem to the back of the sunflower head.

    Clean up
