About This Project

Make a colorful octopus using craft sticks and pony beads! Glue your sticks together to make eight wiggly legs, then decorate each one with bright beads in any pattern you want. Add googly eyes and a smile to your octopus's face, and you've got a new ocean buddy! The best part? You get to pick your own bead colors and make cool patterns on every tentacle! No two octopuses will look the same. You can do this whole craft by yourself and show off your awesome color choices when you're done. You'll love this if: You like choosing colors, making patterns, or creating ocean animals that look totally unique What you'll learn: Making patterns, color matching, gluing skills, and counting (octopuses have 8 legs!)

Make an "X" with two popsicle sticks

To start making your octopus, glue two popsicle sticks together to make an X. Do this two times so you have two Xs.

Glue the Xs together

Place one X on top of the other X so it looks like you have eight legs. Glue them together.

Glue on your beads

Decide on what color and pattern you want for your pony beads. We added three pony beads per tentacle, but you can use more or less. Add a small dot of glue for each bead and place it on carefully.

Make the body

While your glue dries, cut a circle from a piece of paper. Glue on googly eyes, or draw on eyes with a marker.

Add a mouth

Draw a mouth on with a marker. Will you make your octopus silly, serious, or something else?

Glue the face to the body

Glue the face onto the body and let it dry. Your octopus is complete! You could also glue or tie on a string to turn it into a Christmas ornament
