About This Project

A 10–20 minutes craft for ages 3–10, using supplies you likely already have — Elastic Stretch Cord, Hole Punches, and Tape.

Messy Mode

Print and cut your owl mask

Use the attached printable to print and cut your owl mask. If you have a particularly large or small head, you should be able to use your printer settings to scale the image up or down.

Color your owl

Think about the owl you’ve chosen. What specific adaptations make it perfect for its habitat? Think about the owl’s size, color, ears, eyes, legs, and other characteristics. Cut and color your owl to match.

Add your holes

To prevent the string from tearing out the side of your owl, reinforce the area where you'll put the hole with clear tape. Wrap a small piece of tape around the side, then use your hole punch to punch through the taped paper.

Tie on your string

Tie one side of the string to your owl mask. Have a parent or friend help you measure how long the string needs to be while you hold it against your face. It's stretchy string,s oy ou can make it a little bit smaller than the distance around your head. Make sure you leave plenty of string to tie the knot though! Remember, it's always easier to make the string smaller than longer.
