A 15–30 minutes craft for ages 3–10, using supplies you likely already have — Sharpie Markers, Staplers, and Scissors.

Step 1: Prepare the paper bag body.

Take your brown paper lunch bag and fold back the top third. Use your black Sharpie marker to draw the cat’s legs on the bottom of the bag. You can draw all 4 legs or just the 2 you see on one side. Keep it simple. Color in the space around the legs.

Step 2: Cut out the cat's head.

May need grown-up help

Print out the cat craft template and choose one of the designs for your cat’s head. Roughly cut out the cat head from the template and place it on top of construction paper in your chosen color. Roughly cut out that section of construction paper. With the template and construction paper together, carefully cut out your cat’s head.

Step 3: Decorate the cat's head and body.

Use your crayons to add details to the head and body of your cat. You can make your cat look real or like a cartoon. This is your craft, so make it how you want!

Step 4: Add facial features.

Cut out or draw a cat nose. Stick on the googly eyes. Use your Sharpie marker to draw the rest of the cat's face, like a mouth, whiskers, and eyebrows.

Step 5: Attach the head to the body.

Use your glue stick to attach the cat’s head to the paper bag body. Let the glue dry for a minute before moving on.

Step 6: Stuff the paper cat.

Open the top of your brown paper lunch bag. Tear strips of newspaper and crumple them up. Put the crumpled newspaper strips into the lunch bag until it is loosely filled up to the fold line. Do not overfill it.

Step 7: Close the top of the bag.

After filling the bag with newspaper, fold down the top of the bag three times. Ask an adult for help to secure the folded section with a staple on each side.

Step 8: Add a pipe cleaner tail.

Twist two pipe cleaners together (choose your favorite colors). Fold one end slightly to make sure it's not sharp and to keep the pipe cleaners together. Tuck the other end into the folded top of the paper bag. You don't need glue for this part!
